FSD Demands Probe into ABVP Activities

Forum for Students Democracy (FSD) has demanded probe into Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) activities, following the ABVP activists attacked students and artists in Pune last week.

Forum for Students Democracy Demands Probe into ABVP ActivitiesABVP activists have beaten up Kabir Kala Manch (KKM) members and students of Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) after a cultural program and screening of Anand Patwardhan’s Jai Bhim Comrade.

While strongly condemning ABVP’s vandalism, intimidation and violence in FTII Campus in Pune, FSD said it stands in solidarity with the FTII students and KKM members. FSD also participated in a dharna organised on Monday at Jantar Mantar against the attack.

“We would like to bring to the notice of the media and police that ABVP is working like a terrorist organization masquerading as a nationalist organization. The ABVP is involved in terrorist activities and brazenly attacks liberals and open minded individuals,” FSD noted.

“We also demand that the organization is brought under the surveillence of the intelligence agencies and special branches, subsidiary intelligence bureau, across the nation.

“We believe that this radical organization is the single largest threat to the Constitution of India as it hides behind the mask of nationalism and deceives the police and law enforcement agencies.”

ABVP activists accused the FTII students of being “Naxals” for inviting the KKM members. They also shouted slogans such as “Bharat Maata Ki Jai”, “Vande Mataram” and “Down down Naxals” on the night of 21 August in Pune.
